BT has recently announced the discontinuation of their Redcare alarm signalling service, effective August 1,2025. This decision impacts approximately 100,000 customers and businesses who currently rely on Redcare for their alarm systems.
Redcare alarms play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of customers and businesses by providing constant monitoring of BT telephone lines, linking installed alarm systems to an alarm receiving center. This ensures prompt and effective assistance during emergencies.
With the impending withdrawal of Redcare, finding suitable alternatives becomes paramount for those accustomed to relying on its services. However, selecting a replacement isn’t as straightforward as installing any ordinary alarm system. The market offers a plethora of options, making it easy to select a solution that may not meet specific insurance or business requirements.
Any alternative to Redcare must meet two essential criteria:
- Installation must be conducted by a company regulated by either the National Security Inspectorate (NSI), incorporating the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS), or by the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB).
- The system must be maintained in optimal working condition under an annual maintenance contract with a suitable alarm maintenance company or installer regulated by either NSI/NACOSS or SSAIB. Documentation of these maintenance checks may be required when filing a claim.
While many companies offering alternative systems anticipate a surge in demand from former Redcare users, we advise current Redcare customers to reach out to us promptly to ensure seamless transition and adequate coverage. As the August 1, 2025 deadline approaches, installation lead times may increase, and product shortages could arise, underscoring the urgency of timely action.
