Vista speaks at BIBA Manifesto Launch
Earlier this month BIBA launched it’s Manifesto for 2019. Entitled ‘Risks and Opportunities’, it was launched at the Houses of Parliament.
Bethan Perris, Client Manager at Vista, is the BIBA Young Broker Ambassador for Greater Manchester and the West Pennies and is also Chairman of the Young Broker Ambassadors (YBA). At the launch Bethan spoke about the manifesto’s aims along with John Glen MP, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, BIBA Chairman Lord Hunt, BIBA CEO Steve White.
This was the first time the YBA’s have featured in the manifesto as having an active role in achieving its aims. Bethan was chosen thanks to the major role she has played in securing BIBA’s Young Insurance Professionals in Manchester additional training and networking opportunities.
The final section of the manifesto was about opportunities for the future and how BIBA are committed to working with the Chartered Insurance Institute to promote insurance broking as an ‘exciting, challenging and rewarding career’ choice for Young Professionals.
Bethan spoke about changing young people’s opinion of the insurance industry – encouraging them to choose it, rather than fall into it. Bethan discussed the variety of roles present within a brokerage other than broking itself (IT, Accounts, Marketing etc) and how the YBA’s are coming together to promote this across the UK.
There is a skills & age gap within the Industry, so the aim is to close this by attracting talent through apprenticeships and graduate level jobs. Many believe that apprenticeships are the way forwards and programmes such as Aspire Apprenticeship make this option very attractive for both employers and employees as the scheme is heavily subsidised and allows people to ‘earn whilst they learn’.
Vista are proud to be ahead of the curve when it comes to apprenticeships having already taken on two. Our first, Charlotte Taylor, graduated from the scheme a little over a year ago and is now a fully-fledged member of the team working as an Assistant Client Service Executive. Such was the success of the process that we took on our second, Nicholas Mikula, and he is currently completing the scheme as our Accounts Apprentice.
